How old, exactly — not just in years? Filling in an official form, checking a child's age for an enrolment cut-off, preparing a birthday speech with the precise count, or simply satisfying your curiosity: this calculator turns a date of birth into an exact age — completed years, months and days — following the real calendar, leap years included. It also shows how many days remain until the next birthday, so you know precisely when a colleague hits 40 or a child turns 18. Change the date and the result updates instantly. Free, no sign-up, and the date you enter never leaves your browser.
How does it work?
- Enter the date of birth.
- The exact age appears instantly: years, months and days.
- Check the number of days until the next birthday too.
Frequently asked questions
How is the exact age calculated?
In completed years and months, the way civil registries do it: first count the whole years elapsed since birth, then the whole months, then the remaining days. Someone born on 15 March 1990 is, on 2 June 2026, exactly 36 years, 2 months and 18 days old. Real month lengths and leap years are fully respected.
When does your age legally change — at midnight or at your time of birth?
Legally, age changes at the start of the birthday: you are 18 from 00:00 that day, whatever time you were born. People born on 29 February celebrate on 28 February or 1 March in non-leap years — in most jurisdictions, including Switzerland, the legal age is reached on 1 March.
Why can two people born the same day differ in age counted in days?
Age in years, months and days depends on the calendar path travelled: depending on which leap years each life has crossed, two people with strictly the same civil age can have lived a total number of days that differs by one. That is a property of the Gregorian calendar, not a calculation error.
Can I calculate an age at a past or future date?
This calculator gives the age as of today. For an age at another date — how old a child will be at the start of the school year, someone's age when a contract was signed — use our date calculator: the difference between the birth date and the target date yields exactly the same breakdown.
