Why is this tool “built for scans”?
Because compression turns every page into an image. On a scan that changes nothing in practice; on an office-generated PDF, the text will no longer be selectable or searchable. For those files, re-exporting the PDF from the original document works better.
Which resolution should I pick?
110 dpi is a good balance for email and archiving. Go for 150 dpi if the document may be printed again, or 72 dpi when on-screen readability is all that matters and every megabyte counts.
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
